A game of induction

Eleusis

Think like an experimenter

The rules are hidden. The evidence is not.

  1. 01

    Choose a specimen

Pick its number and colour deliberately. A useful test can reveal more than an easy success.

  2. 02

    Read nature’s verdict

Accepted specimens join the chain. Rejected ones stay beside it, preserving the clue that your theory must explain.

  3. 03

    Publish your law

Predict five new verdicts. Get them all right and the hidden law is yours.

The game behind the experiment

An ingenious idea from 1956, made clear for a new screen.

Eleusis was invented by Robert Abbott and first brought to a wide audience through Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column in 1959. Its central pleasure is induction: learning an unknown rule from the evidence created by play.

The web edition and Eleusis Axiom are Mindful Echo adaptations with their own visual design, progression, rules wording and guided solo puzzle. The native multiplayer ruleset also draws on Eleusis Express, developed by John Golden.
