How Pause Uses AI

This document explains how Pause uses artificial intelligence, what data is shared with which providers, and your rights as a user.
Overview of AI Features
Pause uses AI to enhance your journaling experience. These features include:
- Poem generation — AI creates a short poem inspired by your journal entry.
- Reflective prompts — AI suggests thoughtful prompts based on what you have written.
- Insights classification — AI identifies themes and patterns in your entries.
- Voice transcription — AI converts your spoken voice recordings into text.
- Meditation bridge text — AI generates transitional text for guided meditations.
- Meditation audio — AI synthesises spoken audio for guided meditation sessions.
- Onboarding voiceover — AI generates voiceover audio for the onboarding experience.

Data Retention
All data sent to AI providers is processed transiently. This means:
- Your data is sent, processed, and a result is returned in real time.
- No provider stores your data beyond the immediate processing request.
- There is no persistent copy of your journal text or voice audio on any third-party server.
No Model Training
Your data is not used to train AI models. None of the providers listed above use your journal entries, voice recordings, or any other personal data to improve or fine-tune their AI systems.
User Control
You are in control of how AI is used in Pause:
- AI is optional. You can use Pause for text journaling without enabling any AI features.
- Consent is explicit. AI features are only activated after you accept the AI consent screen during onboarding.
- You can change your mind. You can review and manage your AI consent at any time in Settings.
- Local-first. Your journal entries, photos, and preferences are always stored locally on your device. AI-generated content (poems, prompts) is also saved locally after creation.
